As of August 1, 2020, your agreement (the WooCommerce Use Terms) will no longer be with Bubblestorm Management (Pty) Ltd., and the company responsible for your personal information (as mentioned in our Privacy Policy) will change.

If you reside in Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and any countries located in the European continent, your agreement will be with Aut O’Mattic A8C Ireland Ltd., which will be the primary controller of your personal information. If you reside anywhere else, it’s Automattic Inc. that you will contract with and that will be responsible for your personal information.

How Does This Affect Me as a User?

The agreement, our Privacy Policy, and our services haven’t changed — this is purely corporate housekeeping to make things simpler (for us).

Bubblestorm is the original parent company of WooCommerce – we joined the Automattic family a few years ago, and these changes help formalize that. You may already be familiar with these entities if you have a WordPress.com account or have read through our Privacy Policy.

Nothing – it’s business as usual, and your store and WooCommerce.com account remain unaffected.

I can’t access my account

To access a WooCommerce account, log in with your connected WordPress.com account credentials. 

• If you have a WordPress.com account, but don’t remember the password, you can reset it by visiting the Lost Password form to start the password recovery process. 
• If you need to create a WordPress.com or WooCommerce.com account, check out the Log into WooCommerce.com with WordPress.com documentation to get you started.

How do I unsubscribe from these emails?

Please note that it’s not possible to unsubscribe from important emails about our relationship or our transactions (like the one you just received) as long as you have a WooCommerce.com account.

To unsubscribe from marketing emails, please click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing message you’ve received. 

I’d like to close my account

WooCommerce.com accounts are now accessed via a WordPress.com login. For more information on how to close a WordPress.com account, visit the Close My Account documentation for more details. You can close your WordPress.com account here. 

• If you want to keep your WordPress.com account, but delete your WooCommerce.com account, please contact us.

Marketplace Developer responsibilities

Marketplace Developers, sometimes called Marketplace Vendors, are individuals or companies who sell products on WooCommerce.com. They:

• Maintain their own product listings
• Improve their products as WordPress, WooCommerce and the broader eCommerce market evolve and update their products in response to customer feedback
• Resolve problems that come up with their products
• Provide support for customers who have purchased their products – if you log a support request for a product made by a Marketplace Developer, you’ll get a reply directly from them

How to know who makes a product

The owner of a product is listed on the product page.

And also noted when you log a support request for one of their products.

What information is shared with Marketplace Developers

In general, no personal information about customers is shared with Marketplace Developers, though they do see aggregate data about the sales of their products.

When a customer logs a support request with a Marketplace Developer, we will share some information to help the Developer respond to the request, including:

• The customer’s email address, so the Developer can respond to the request
• What product the email is in reference to and when the subscription for that product expires
• Whatever information the customer shared on the ticket, including their website URL and system status report

If a customer asks a Developer about another product they’ve purchased in the course of a support interaction, the Developer may contact us to confirm the customer has purchased the product, and we may also share information about that product subscription with that Developer.

This resource provides a general overview, but if you have specific concerns about a particular extension, we encourage you to contact support about that extension.

Depending on what settings are enabled and which additional plugins are used, the specific information shared by your store will vary. We recommend consulting with a lawyer when deciding what information to disclose on your privacy policy.

As a general rule, store owners should minimize how much personal data they collect, store and share, and disclose what information they’re collecting, storing and sharing on their privacy policy.

Information shared with WooCommerce.com

By using an extension, you are generally not sharing information about your customers with WooCommerce.com. You will likely be sharing some information about yourself with WooCommerce.com, for example:

• When you make a purchase on WooCommerce.com and connect your account, we will know what sites you are using the subscription on, but will not get additional usage data, or data about you or your customers.
• If you are using an extension to connect to a service like Instagram, we may have stored an authentication token in order to make that connection, but will not get additional data about your use of that service or extension.

Payments

If you choose to accept payments through a gateway like Stripe or PayPal, some of your — and your customers’ — data will be passed to the respective third party, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and your customer’s billing information. Learn more about what information you may be sharing.

Shipping

To take advantage of the real-time shipping rates, fulfill orders and track shipments, certain information about you and your customer (as it relates to shipping), shopping carts, orders, and the configuration of your site will be passed to the respective mailing service. Learn more about what data you may be sharing with shipping providers.

Emails

WordPress and WooCommerce do not store information from emails by default. So, using extensions like Product Enquiry will not store any information on your site. However, by using these extensions, you still may be storing personal data or sharing data with an external service. This may be through another plugin, or email client, and you need to make your visitors aware of that.

Extensions that connect to external services

WooCommerce stores may choose to connect to email services, analytics and reporting tools, accounting software and other services to serve their customers. In doing so, they may be sharing certain data with those services.
