What Has Changed?

As of August 1, 2020, your agreement (the WooCommerce Use Terms) will no longer be with Bubblestorm Management (Pty) Ltd., and the company responsible for your personal information (as mentioned in our Privacy Policy) will change.

If you reside in Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and any countries located in the European continent, your agreement will be with Aut O’Mattic A8C Ireland Ltd., which will be the primary controller of your personal information. If you reside anywhere else, it’s Automattic Inc. that you will contract with and that will be responsible for your personal information.

How Does This Affect Me as a User?

The agreement, our Privacy Policy, and our services haven’t changed — this is purely corporate housekeeping to make things simpler (for us).

Bubblestorm is the original parent company of WooCommerce – we joined the Automattic family a few years ago, and these changes help formalize that. You may already be familiar with these entities if you have a WordPress.com account or have read through our Privacy Policy.

What Do I Need to Do?

Nothing – it’s business as usual, and your store and WooCommerce.com account remain unaffected.

FAQs

How do I know my personal information is secure?

Privacy is critically important to us. For details of how we collect and store personal information, see our Privacy Policy.

I can’t access my account

To access a WooCommerce account, log in with your connected WordPress.com account credentials.

If you have a WordPress.com account, but don’t remember the password, you can reset it by visiting the Lost Password form to start the password recovery process.

If you need to create a WordPress.com or WooCommerce.com account, check out the Log into WooCommerce.com with WordPress.com documentation to get you started.

For further assistance with your account, please contact us.

How do I unsubscribe from these emails?

Please note that it’s not possible to unsubscribe from important emails about our relationship or our transactions (like the one you just received) as long as you have a WooCommerce.com account.

To unsubscribe from marketing emails, please click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing message you’ve received.

I’d like to close my account

WooCommerce.com accounts are now accessed via a WordPress.com login. For more information on how to close a WordPress.com account, visit the Close My Account documentation for more details. You can close your WordPress.com account here.

If you want to keep your WordPress.com account, but delete your WooCommerce.com account, please contact us.

If you haven’t connected WordPress.com or you are unable to access your account, please contact us to help delete your account.

On WooCommerce.com, we sell extensions that add niche, complex or unique functionality to power up WooCommerce stores. These extensions are either made by the WooCommerce team or by trusted Marketplace Developers, who create, maintain and support their products.

Marketplace Developer responsibilities

Marketplace Developers, sometimes called Marketplace Vendors, are individuals or companies who sell products on WooCommerce.com. They:

Maintain their own product listings

Improve their products as WordPress, WooCommerce and the broader eCommerce market evolve and update their products in response to customer feedback

Resolve problems that come up with their products

Provide support for customers who have purchased their products – if you log a support request for a product made by a Marketplace Developer, you’ll get a reply directly from them

Read our Marketplace Overview to better understand the role of Marketplace Developers.

How to know who makes a product

The owner of a product is listed on the product page.

And also noted when you log a support request for one of their products.

What information is shared with Marketplace Developers

In general, no personal information about customers is shared with Marketplace Developers, though they do see aggregate data about the sales of their products.

When a customer logs a support request with a Marketplace Developer, we will share some information to help the Developer respond to the request, including:

The customer’s email address, so the Developer can respond to the request

What product the email is in reference to and when the subscription for that product expires

Whatever information the customer shared on the ticket, including their website URL and system status report

If a customer asks a Developer about another product they’ve purchased in the course of a support interaction, the Developer may contact us to confirm the customer has purchased the product, and we may also share information about that product subscription with that Developer.

The post Overview of Marketplace Developers first appeared on CODIBU.

The post Privacy and the WooCommerce Marketplace first appeared on CODIBU.

When a WooCommerce site uses an extension offered on WooCommerce.com, they may be:

Collecting additional personal data, such as city and zip code to calculate shipping rates

Sharing data with external services, such as billing address to process a payment

This documentation describes what data may be collected and shared about your customers when you use extensions sold on WooCommerce.com. This resource provides a general overview, but if you have specific concerns about a particular extension, we encourage you to contact support about that extension.

Depending on what settings are enabled and which additional plugins are used, the specific information shared by your store will vary. We recommend consulting with a lawyer when deciding what information to disclose on your privacy policy.

As a general rule, store owners should minimize how much personal data they collect, store and share, and disclose what information they’re collecting, storing and sharing on their privacy policy.

Information shared with WooCommerce.com

By using an extension, you are generally not sharing information about your customers with WooCommerce.com. You will likely be sharing some information about yourself with WooCommerce.com, for example:

When you make a purchase on WooCommerce.com and connect your account, we will know what sites you are using the subscription on, but will not get additional usage data, or data about you or your customers.

If you are using an extension to connect to a service like Instagram, we may have stored an authentication token in order to make that connection, but will not get additional data about your use of that service or extension.

For more information about how WooCommerce.com handles personal data, please review our privacy policy.

Additionally, if you are using Jetpack or WooCommerce Services (which requires Jetpack), you may be sending back data about your customers. Find out more about these products here.

For more on what information is shared with Marketplace Developers when you purchase their products on WooCommerce.com or log a support request with them, read our overview here.

Payments

If you choose to accept payments through a gateway like Stripe or PayPal, some of your — and your customers’ — data will be passed to the respective third party, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and your customer’s billing information. Learn more about what information you may be sharing.

Shipping

To take advantage of the real-time shipping rates, fulfill orders and track shipments, certain information about you and your customer (as it relates to shipping), shopping carts, orders, and the configuration of your site will be passed to the respective mailing service. Learn more about what data you may be sharing with shipping providers.

Emails

WordPress and WooCommerce do not store information from emails by default. So, using extensions like Product Enquiry will not store any information on your site. However, by using these extensions, you still may be storing personal data or sharing data with an external service. This may be through another plugin, or email client, and you need to make your visitors aware of that.

Extensions that connect to external services

WooCommerce stores may choose to connect to email services, analytics and reporting tools, accounting software and other services to serve their customers. In doing so, they may be sharing certain data with those services.

The post Privacy and the WooCommerce Marketplace first appeared on CODIBU.

Allowing reviews on the WooCommerce.com marketplace enables us to better inform customers on our products and services and to help with purchasing decisions. Additionally, it gives customers an opportunity to pass feedback to our support and product development teams.

Customers who buy a product on WooCommerce.com can leave a rating from one to five stars and a few words about their experience.

Leaving reviews

To review a product:

Log in to your WooCommerce.com account

Go to the product listing on WooCommerce.com, and scroll to the bottom of the page

Enter a star rating and a comment

Guidelines

Reviews must be:

Relevant

About the product you purchased and/or support you received. Reviews that offer a criticism of Marketplace Terms (such as pricing or subscription terms), rather than the product they’re associated with, will be removed.

Provide an explanation of the rating. Reviews that simply say ‘Great!’ or ‘Doesn’t work’ don’t help other customers understand a product better and decide if it’ll apply to their particular situation.

Longer than 5 words

Not a link or advertisement for third-party products or services

Not a “Support Request”

About the current/available version, not a past release

Truthful

Accurate and honest, e.g., Should you say you reached out to developers for support, we will verify and remove the review if it is not true.

Appropriate

Language and content without spam, profanity, or affiliate links

Without personal information, e.g., email address, phone number, mailing address, etc.

Not direct people off platform to a competing product or competing marketplace unless there is a feature or functionality disparity that is explicitly called out in the review

Should a review be considered irrelevant and/or inappropriate, it will be removed and the reviewer will receive an explanation and opportunity to revise and resubmit his/her review for publication.

We reserve the right to determine whether a review violates our guidelines.

Version Number

Ratings are associated with a specific version of an extension.

To find out what version of an extension you’re using on your site, log in to your WordPress site and go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.

Flagging reviews

Anyone can mark reviews for potential removal if the content is in violation of Guidelines outlined above.

To flag a review, select the Flag icon:

Flagged reviews are sent to us for moderation and will be reviewed within 10 business days.

The post Ratings and Reviews first appeared on CODIBU.

FAQ

What WordPress.com account should I use?

If you have an existing WordPress.com account that you would like to use you can log in with that accounts details.

If you are developing stores for clients and/or manage multiple WooCommerce.com accounts, you do not need to connect your WooCommerce.com account to your personal WordPress.com account – you can create a ‘generic’ WordPress.com account, and connect that to your clients WooCommerce.com account.

Will my clients be able to see other client’s information after this change?

No, nothing has changed with regards to how information is handled or its confidentiality. Your WooCommerce.com account behaves just as it did before, it just uses a different login system.

My client’s sites also use Jetpack, which is connected to the client’s personal wp.com account. Will this additional connection to wp.com interfere with the Jetpack connection?

No, it won’t affect your client’s Jetpack installation and/or the personal WordPress.com account they used to connect Jetpack.

Is there any way to log into WooCommerce.com without a WP.com account?

No. If you would like to read more about some of the additional benefits of using WordPress.com accounts on WooCommerce.com you can read more about that here.

The post Log into WooCommerce.com with WordPress.com first appeared on CODIBU.

Troubleshooting auto-install

REST API

To enable auto-install, your store needs the WordPress REST API enabled.

The REST API doesn’t support Plain permalinks. Select one of the other permalinks options WP-Admin > Settings > Permalinks to enable auto-install.

In some cases, WordPress sites disable their REST API or restrict access to it by allowing only logged in users to access it. This is usually done either by using plugins or custom code.

How to ensure your site’s REST API is working

To test your REST API just open http://yoursite.test/wp-json/ (replace http://yoursite.test/ with your site’s domain). If the link you opened shows your site’s name, description, etc. this means your REST API is working.

If you get a message similar to Only authenticated users can access the REST API., this means your site’s REST API is restricted to logged-in users only. To fix this simply login to your site and try again.

How to enable your site’s REST API

If the above step doesn’t resolve your issue there is a chance your site’s REST API is disabled. Check your site’s plugins and make sure you don’t use any plugins that are specifically made for blocking the REST API.

If you are using a security plugin check your settings to make sure REST API is enabled.

In some cases, site owners add custom code to the site to disable the REST API. This code should be removed or modified to allow REST API access to all /wp-json/wccom-site/ endpoints. If you are not sure where this code can be, try searching your site’s plugins and theme files for the message, returned by /wp-json/.

Refresh connection to WooCommerce.com

Auto-install relies on your store’s connection to your WooCommerce.com account.

If auto-install isn’t working, try to refresh a connection to WooCommerce.com by clicking the Update button in WooCommerce > Extensions > WooCommerce.com Subscriptions.

Enable WordPress cron

Auto-install uses WordPress cron to install plugins. Ensure it is enabled on your site.

You can check if cron is enabled in WooCommerce > Status > System status > WordPress cron.

If cron is disabled, you should check whether there is the following line in wp-config.php file in your main WordPress folder:

define( 'DISABLE_WP_CRON', true );

If it is present, remove or comment this line to enable WordPress cron on your site.

If you don’t want to activate WordPress cron for some reason, you may use a real cron job instead. Check How to Replace the WordPress Cron with a Real Cron Job Tutorial by SiteGround.

Transfer a subscription

Transferring is used to hand over an extension to a new owner. It includes both ownership and billing. Specific use cases would be:

Consolidating purchases across multiple WooCommerce.com accounts.

Handing over a site to a client once the site/store development is finished.

Transferring ownership of an extension purchased on behalf of someone a company or agency.

How to transfer an extension/key

Once the transfer is accepted, the extension is moved from the original owner’s account to the new owner’s account.

How to transfer one key of a multi-site subscription

In the past we offered 5- and 25-site subscriptions. It’s not possible to “break off” parts of a 5-site and/or 25-site subscription and transfer those keys to individual clients. Why? Because the key number belongs to the full package.

It is also not possible to link two different WooCommerce.com accounts to the same site as a way to share the ownership of extensions on one site.

You would need to purchase a separate subscription/key for every client or have them purchase it themselves on their own WordPress/WooCommerce account if they want ownership of the extension. Or you can share a single key in a multi-site subscription using the sharing feature by following these steps; in this case, you retain ownership.

Share a subscription

Sharing is used to give someone else access to the extension that you purchased. The original owner of the extension retains both the ownership and billing of the extension. Sharing would be used to allow a store builder to purchase a subscription for use on their client’s site.

How to share an extension/key

Log into your WooCommerce.com account, and go to My Subscriptions.

Select the extension you want to share, and click the Share link.
